Millbrook v Saints Vets

With no first team game, nearly-Vets Tony Cador and Ian Budd bolstered the Vets' pack against a spirited Millbrook side.

Playing into the wind in the first half and under early pressure, Saints scored three tries before half time. But with a 17-0 lead, Saints then went to sleep and allowed the home team to score twice.

A back row fumble from Millbrook allowed Ian Budd to run in from the 10 metre line. But Millbrook scored again with five minutes left to narrow the gap and guarantee another tight finish. Again though, Saints held on to take another close victory.

Although man of the match was not awarded this week, Grant Whiteside harried very well in and around rucks and mauls, as did Merv Guest. Tony Cador used his substantial bulk and power to punch holes in the defence. Alex Scott made his usual quality runs, while Ian Duncan and Ian Smart proved a handful with ball in hand.
