Southampton 2s v Petersfield 3s

Today's game was against Petersfield 3s. This was not a game to be taken lightly- when we travelled to theirs earlier in the season they scored twice in the first ten minutes and we didnt want this to happen again.

The game started and we put pressure on them straight away and with precise passing of the ball in the backs it wasn't long before Dave Conlon was over for his first try for the club after a well-worked move. Ryan Keary addind the extra 2 points.

Only minutes later we were in again, with Alex Scott finishing off another good move orchestrated through the backs. We were 12-0 ahead and only five minutes gone on the clock. What a reversal.

The game slowed down a bit after that, with lots of set pieces which we seemed to be dominating. However the loose play wasn't so good from us and we let them get one back by half time.

We begun the second half 12-5 ahead and threatened Petersfield straight from the restart. With a good kick from Ryan we were in their 22 with a lineout. A good catch and we were driving towards Petersfield's try line. They couldn't cope with our driving maul and Lewis Manning touched down for his first try for the club, to put us 17-5 ahead.

However it didnt last and we seemed to lose our way. The heckling from the touchline was driving us to distraction and before long the scoreline changed and it was 17-17.

We got a penalty and Ryan put it over to give us a slight edge at 20-17. The heckling from the touchline continued, so we all got together
and got our focus back on the game and started again.

Within a few minutes we pushed the ball out wide and Alex worked his magic again to go over for his second try. Once again Ryan converted. A little while later it went wide again this time Alex gave the ball to Mika Bunney for him to run in an easy try, which again Ryan converted.

With only a few minutes left we managed to keep the opposition at bay and ran out winners. The final score was Southampton 2s 34-17 Petersfield 3s.
