New Milton 2s v Saints 2s

A nice end to the year. Once again we arrived late with only 25 minutes until kick off but we got out, warmed up and then it was game on.

New Milton started fairly strongly, winning a couple of penalties in the first ten but fortunately for us they missed them. But it wasn't long before they got through our defence to score.

We started to wake up a bit and got stuck in to a good game of rugby. Doddsy opened the scoring for us with Griff adding the extras. Forwards and backs seemed to be working together which opened the field up and gave our backs a chance to run some moves. We split their defence and Doddsy ran in again, Griff once again adding the conversion.

Through a couple of missed tackles New Milton managed to get one back down the touchline. We turned around at half time still with the confidence that we got this one in the bag.

The whole team was working together and with strong running by Adam in the centre we were back in their 22. With some good rucking by the forwards Mark Mauger got one over the line from at least three metres out.

A short while later Femi got the ball in our half and jigged his way towards the line and when it looked like he he got held up just short, he wriggled out and put down between the posts.

New Milton used their strong runners and managed to get one try back. But from there we were resolute in our defence and held them off when they came close to our line. Final score New Milton 2s 17 Southampton 2s 26.

A very good performance from the lads. If everyone could make just one training session a week, think how much better we could be. No game for the twos next week, although there is for the 1s and 3s.
