Southampton 2 10 - 45 Solent University

Today's game was against Solent University who are playing very well and riding high in the Merit League.

There was a few players that we all knew from last season who had played alongside us but were now playing against us. Having a strong player base we knew it was going to be a hard game for us but we made a good account of ourselves, defending well against this University side.

The set piece was not as strong as previous games, but the forwards made good use of the pick up and drive with both Ian and Lee Mauger making good ground and providing the backs with a platform to work off.

Our points came either side of Half time as just before the break Wiseman scored in the right hand corner after some good work from the forwards giving him the chance to break.

Just after half time Clemont [Monty] pounced on a loose ball from a ruck and ran in for a fine try in the corner.

Even though the scores were close at this time we were taking lots of pressure from the Solent side but the boys didnt let their heads fall and rallied well to keep the game even.

However Solent with their young and fitter lads were making lots of ground up in the loose and towards the end of the game managed to run in three more tries.

After the game it seemed that the Solent side were more disappointed not to have put more points on us. Final score was Southampton 2s 10 - 45 Solent University.

Well done lads - a good effort against tough opposition.
