Southampton 0 - 53 Tottonians 3s

Welcome to the New Year, after a long lay-off with all the snow and cancellations we finally managed to get a game. It was against Tottonians 3s and a Merit table one to boot. With only 4 confirmed players on Tuesday night once the 1st team had a look, it didn't look too good.

But with Jeffers' boys and the cancellation of the Vets game Thursday evening, things looked better. With five new faces in the pack, new ones in the backs and players out of position we went for it. Unfortunately for us Totts were much the better side and you could see that most of them trained together and were fitter than us.

Despite that we had pride in ourselves and although only thrown together in a very short time we all gave it everything we could. As Totts started to run in a few tries, everyone stayed positive and I could see in the faces that there was belief that we could hold our own.

For long spells during the game we did exactly that. Doddsy put in a couple of try-saving tackles and Jeffers was sprinting up the field a few times as well. We did lose it a couple of times though, especially when Mark Mauger decided to kick for touch instead giving it to Dan, and Southampton were lucky not to concede from it.

I think everyone enjoeyed running out the cobwebs from such a long lay off and I hope to be able to keep hold of the lads that joined us for the game so that we can see the rest of the season out.
