Saints run in thirteen tries to retake the top spot......

Southampton went back to the top of Hampshire Two after a comprehensive 77-5 victory over Alresford.

Pete Fox started the scoring after only three minutes when the forwards powered over from a line out, before Chris Alston ran in a quality winger's try by going round the outside of his opposite man.

Jules cut through a dog-legged defence to touch down Saints' third, and Mark Waterer completed a first half hat-trick from the left wing. Harry King also grabbed himself a try in a half that was completely dominated by Southampton.

The half time score was 41-0.

The second half saw Will Ewart open the scoring after the Alresford half backs fumbled the ball in their own twenty-two. Ewart's pressure on the fly half earned him the five points as he stole the loose ball and dived over the line.

An excellent break by Chris Alston then opened up the defence for Nick Cazeaux to score, with the flanker finishing off in typical "look for contact" forward style.

Hector Bevit-Smith darted through a gap at a breakdown to take Southampton to 58 points, with Ryan Keary grabbing another after using his strength to power through the Alresford winger.

Chris Alston earned the Man of the Match award taking his second try, capping an excellent performance where he showed confidence and pace to go round his opposite man at every opportunity.

Will Ewart rounded things off with Southampton's thirteenth try and Keary's conversion took Saints to 77 points.

Despite the thumping scoreline, Alresford's heads never dropped and they made Southampton work for their points throughout. Their job was made harder just before half time when their best player, the number seven, was taken to hospital with a twisted knee. We wish him all the best for a speedy recovery.

Alresford earned a consolation try when they found a rare gap in the Saints defence, with the outside centre getting the ball down.

Southampton return to the top of the table on points difference as Overton failed to earn a bonus point against Locksheath, however Southampton still have a game in hand over both Overton and third placed Heathens.
