Southampton hit Fawley for six

Southampton cemented their place on top of Hampshire 2 after dispatching Fawley with six tries.

Despite some eartly attempts from Southampton the first quarter remained scoreless until Julian Robins took a pass from Doug Barrow (!) to run in on the overlap. Rob Gould added the extra points.

Southampton doubled their lead through Mika Bunny, making his debut for the firsts. Rob Gould fed Harry King, who offloaded to Doug Barrow before looping and passing to Robins. He had Bunny outside him, who was unstoppable as he ran in under the posts. Rob Gould finished it off by adding the conversion, for a 14-0 lead. No further scores meant it remained that at half time.

The second half started brightly for Southampton as Harry King touched down after some quick hands opened up the defence on the right wing. But Fawley then hit back themselves as some missed tackles allowed their second row through a gap in the defence making the score 19-7.

But Southampton snuffed out any threat of a comeback when Mika Bunny found some space inside his own half and seemingly stepped the entire Fawley before running in under the posts.

Harry King was again on the scoreboard for Southampton after a line out was followed by a drive from the pack which took them over the Fawley line from around twenty yards out for 31-7.

Kev Simmons then rounded things off for Southampton when he picked up from a ruck and found no defenders in front of him. He capped off an excellent performance by running it in for the game's final try.

The final score was 38-7, earning Southampton a bonus point and keeping them firmly on top of the table. Some excellent performances, with Kev Simmons earning himself Man of the Match. Harry King again had a storming match, while debutant Mika Bunny's jinking runs proved too much for Fawley.

Aldershot and Fleet move up to second place, overtaking Lymington Mariners. Next league game is against Lymington Mariners on December 3rd.
