First Team beat Alton 16-15
By Kenny Baughan
1st XV continue their winning streak with a hard fought scrappy win away at Alton, staying top of the league.
A much changed SRFC back line was put together last minute which showed in the performance. Scrappy, mistake ridden and patchy were some of the adjectives used to describe the performance.
10-0 down SRFC got their first points through a second drop goal in as many weeks for Tom Morton was followed by another Alton (unconverted) try to go 15-3 up. This would be their last points.
SRFC fought back with a try through big Jake Tansley with a conversion and penalty from Morton clawing SRFC back into the game. 15-13 to the home side at Half Time.
SRFC were warned about repeated high tackles and James Canneux was the unlucky recipient of a yellow card, for which he is still arguing was soft.
The only score in the second half was a Morton penalty which gave SRFC the win. They stay unbeaten and top of the league, but serious questions need to be raised at training and on commitment if this team is to fulfill it's potential.
