It was a big day for Southampton Rugby Club as two sides turned out at home for the first time in many years. But things didn't quite go to plan as the league leaders Andover ran out 12 - 29 winners.
A first half try came from scrum half Tom Howells, who found a gap in the defence from the back of a ruck to run in and score under the posts. He grabbed a second try late in the game after a break from Jordan on the halfway line, but by that point Andover were home and dry.
After the game, Southampton's captain Jordan Dashwood said "It was a tough day today, we really didn't perform to our best. But we were in the game from the first to the last minute showing great team spirit. Great relationships are starting to form and we reset and go again next week".
In the clubhouse after the game the formal process to hand over captaincy from Robbie Ashby to Jordan, and to induct new Second team skipper Dave Ward, introduced a new ceremony to the club that everyone involved in will remember for some time...
Southampton take both sides on the road to Aldershot and Fleet next week with the Ones hoping to close the gap at the top with a victory over third placed A&F.
