Southampton show their class as they demolish Hampshire One side Farnborough.......

Southampton put down a real statement of intent as they humbled Hampshire One side Farnborough in Sunday's Hampshire Cup.

Scrum half Hector Bevit-Smith got scoring underway as he ducked through a gap in the defence and touched down, with Ryan Keary adding the conversion.

Mark Waterer was next on the scoreboard, finishing well after Chris Alston had come off his wing to create the extra man. Again Keary made no mistake for an early 14-0 lead.

Saints' third try came from Julian Robins, who finished off a great passage of play which saw the forwards make the hard yards before providing quick ball to the backs.

Southampton then had to face ten minutes with fourteen men as Kevin Simmons was sinbinned for some excessive use of the boot, but despite being a man down they still managed to steal a number of Farnborough scrums.

As the first half drew to a close, Hector grabbed his second try after the Farnborough defence bought his dummy pass at the ruck and a gap opened up for the Saints half back.

Keary's conversion maintained his 100% record with the boot in the first half.

Farnborough grabbed a converted try just before half time with what was probably their only ball of the half, to make the score 28-7 at the break.

The visitors bagged the first try of the second half but it was to be their last, as Southampton dominated the remainder of the game. Will Ewart grabbed Saints' fifth try using his strength to power over under the posts, before Kevin Simmons did likewise to make the score 42-14.

Ryan Keary rounded off the scoring as he finished another good move from the Southampton backs in the corner. He was unable to convert the try, which was his only miss of the afternoon.

Despite the comprehensive scoreline, Southampton could have easily scored more with Mark Waterer spurning a hat trick of chances on the left wing. But the final score of 47-12 was a fair reflection of Southampton's dominance.

New signing Mark Price will be adding his badge to the coveted Man of the Match jacket after an excellent work on the flank, while Kieran Berry made his first team debut after replacing Pete Fox at prop.

Southampton now face Jersey United Banks in the quarter final at Test park next Saturday.
