SRFC win 3rd successive game with bonus point victory

Southampton RFC build momentum into their season with 3rd successive win on the trot against a physical Lymington Mariners side at Test Park. Hardwork from the Southampton forwards and slick play from the backs ensured a bonus point 34-12 win for the home side.

Southampton started on the front foot when Lymington's opening kick off didn't go 10m. SRFC decided for a scrum which they won and quick hands in the backs released Claremont Fontenaille on the wing to score the first try.

The resulting restart lead to another short kick from Lymington but this time Southampton counter attacked and hard forward running took the team up to the 22 before the forwards got their try - no. 8 Andrew Campbell touching down and a superb rolling maul. Both tries were converted successfully by player-coach Tom Morton.

Lymington replied by taking a quick tap and go from a penalty on Southampton's 5m line to score. A tight end to the half with only one Southampton penalty further scored saw the score end 17-5.

The start of the 2nd half saw Southampton reduced to 14 men due to a dangerous tackle but it was Southampton who scored during the sinbin with fullback David-Bolle Jones dancing around the opposition before offloading to Scrum Half Ashley Saunter to score.

Both teams traded tries with Pablo Contreras bursting through for Southampton to secure the bonus point win. The score ended 34-12 to Southampton. SRFC now have 3 successive wins and are building nicely under the new coaching team.

Man of the match was returning ex-captain Stephen Judd who was chop tackling without missing a single one all day.
